Governor Beverly Perdue is encouraging North Carolinians to volunteer as part of a national campaign, “United We Serve.” In line with President Barack Obama’s initiative, the goal is to engage people in volunteer events that help the environment, education, health care access, community renewal, veterans and military families.

On Friday, September 11th, during the National Day of Service, the United Way of Moore County will sponsor its annual Day of Caring event. Volunteers are encouraged to contact the United Way to participate in special projects throughout the community. “Non-profit agencies in Moore County are always happy to receive volunteers to help with projects that otherwise would be put on the back burner or not done at all,” says United Way of Moore County Executive Director, Linda Pearson. “This is a wonderful opportunity for both the agency and the volunteer. We’ve seen some pretty amazing connections occur as volunteers for the Day of Caring find out more about the agencies and the services they provide in the community. Many will continue to serve in a volunteer capacity and that is what we intend, to engage people in their community,” she concludes.

The Day of Caring marks the official start of the United Way giving campaign. This is the fifth Day of Caring event for the United Way of Moore County over the past five years. Volunteers will report for work opportunities on the morning of September 11th and all gather for lunch later in the day to share the activities of the day.
