On Thursday, August 19th the United Way of Moore County presents the 2010 Tee Off Classic hosted by the Country Club of North Carolina. The tournament will be played on the club’s beautiful Dogwood Course. The Dogwood is ranked by Golf Digest as one of the Top 10 courses in the state of North Carolina. It was also the site of the 62nd U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship back in July.

Local Emergency Food & Shelter Program Awards Federal Funds PDF Print E-mail

This year, Moore County received $52,018.00 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county.

The Local Board made up of representatives from the United Way of Moore County, the Salvation Army, American Red Cross, the Department of Social Services, and others determine how the funds awarded to Moore County are to be distributed. The funds are distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area. The Local Board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds available under this phase of the program.

There is good news for residents of Moore County. Beginning February 11, 2009, finding answers to health and human services questions will become much easier thanks to 2-1-1 the United Way telephone referral service. Just as people call 9-1-1 for emergencies and 4-1-1 for directory assistance, callers in Moore County will be able to dial 2-1-1 and speak with a trained referral specialist about critical health and human services available to our community.

The United Way of Moore County and its board of directors are set to recognize Reverend Hal E. Hyde, Jr. on January 22, 2009 at the Cornerstone Award Banquet with its highest award. The Cornerstone Award is given by the United Way of Moore County to an individual who has demonstrated extraordinary commitment, creativity, leadership, volunteerism, inspiration and sustained service with broad scope of impact on the quality of life in the community. United Way Campaign Chairman, Gerald Galloway comments that, “Whether serving committees supporting recreation or fair housing, to serving as chaplain and minister to many, or as an advocate for education or the disadvantaged, Hal Hyde has served many areas of our community well and certainly deserves this recognition.”

Established in 1968, this year the United Way of Moore County celebrates 40 years of making life better for people in our community. Our records show that since 1994, forty local nonprofits agencies and programs have benefited from the work of the United Way of Moore County with nearly six and a half million dollars in grants being awarded. Over the years, community contributions have been distributed to programs benefiting hundreds of men, women, and children right here where we live. The United Way of Moore County continues to work with partner agencies and members of the community to do the most good where it is needed.
