Last week I met with an elderly man who worked all his life and is now living on his Social Security. His wife of fifty-three years died a few years ago. Unfortunately with the cost of groceries and gasoline, he had gotten behind on his power bill this summer and he was facing a disconnect soon. With the help of the United Way, the Coalition was able to pay his power bill and keep his power on which allows him to use his breathing machine at night. Without the support of the United Way, the Coalition for Human Care would not be able to help almost five thousand families in Moore County who live in poverty. Help from the United Way allows families living on a fixed income or minimum wage job to make it through an emergency. United Way support may enable a young family to have running water to bathe their newborn baby. It may allow the Coalition to pay for an unexpected funeral. It may help a family who has been burned out of their home to pay a rent deposit. Some of the money donated helps low-income families provide food for their families by allowing the Coalition to purchase food at the Sandhills Food Bank. In short, your gift to the United Way makes it possible for the needy in Moore County to have the most basic of human needs delivered with care and compassion from the over three hundred volunteers and seventy churches who give their time and energy to make the operations of the Coalition possible. Yes, your gift to the United Way of Moore County makes a difference in many lives. We see it every day at the Coalition because of your help. Thank you Moore County for being the kind of place people care about their neighbors. Sincerely, Caroline Eddy Director, Sandhills Moore Coalition for Human Care |
